What To Do In Bath?

Visitors to Bath would do well to simply wander the cobbled Georgian streets, soaking up the local culture and exploring the side streets and little shops. Bath is, of course, known for its Roman heritage and its impressive synchronised brick work which is still used to make and refurbish many buildings throughout the city.
There is plenty to see and do throughout Bath, including:

  • Roman Baths – Recently reopened the baths have been used for bathing for some 2,000 years and still flow with naturally warm water.
  • Bath Abbey – Located near the main shopping areas where street performers sing and entertain is the dominating abbey which has been home to a church for around 1,000 years.
  • The Royal Crescent – The iconic crescent features 30 impressive houses from its position next to Victoria Park. It was built towards the end of the 18th century and took around seven years to construct.
  • The Pump Room – Set right at the heart of Bath the pump room offers the usual attractive exterior that is evident throughout the city.
  • American Museum in Britain – The grand traditional house shows something of how the Americans used to live in the days before the Civil War. This unique idea tells the history using a range of medium and helps visitors get in touch with the reality of the past events which took place on the other side of the pond.

The city is located near to its larger neighbour Bristol, while access to the south-west is also convenient. Further afield there are the likes of Longleat (featured on the BBC’s Animal Park) with its extensive grounds, numerous animals and grand mansion. In Bristol there are sights such as the Clifton suspension bridge, the SS Great Britain and several top shopping centres like the new Cabot Circus and the The Mall at Cribbs Causeway.
